Best Ways to Manage Bleeding Following an Oral Surgery ProcedureBleeding after an oral surgery procedure is normal. The amount of bleeding depends on the person and the type of surgery they have had done. There are instructions that we provide our patients with, that should be followed. These instructions provide the patient with ways to manage bleeding following an oral surgery procedure.

Ways to Manage Bleeding Following a Procedure

The best ways to manage bleeding is to keep the gauze in for the recommended amount of time and consistently put pressure on the area. It doesn't have to be hard pressure; just light pressure is enough to help the mouth clot. You also want to make sure you avoid smoking during the healing process if at all possible, as this can hinder the amount of time it takes the area to heal.

Straws are forbidden for the time it takes the area to heal. If you use a straw, this can dislodge any blood clot that has formed to stop the bleeding. Keep the area clean, refraining from spitting or brushing directly in the area, and follow the aftercare instructions we give you after the procedure completely. This can give your oral surgery site the best chances possible of healing properly and completely.

If you do notice any issues after the surgical procedure, please give our office a call. We can address any issues you're experiencing as soon as possible. This is important to reduce the chances of serious complications, including any oral infections that may happen.

If you do notice unnatural bleeding after a procedure, it is important to speak with our office. We can provide you with the help needed to stop the bleeding or take a look to see what the issue is.
