All-on-4® Treatment Concept

Tooth loss is a serious issue that has a significant impact on your oral health, your appearance, and your overall quality of life. Biting and chewing your food becomes more difficult. Speaking becomes more of a challenge. Your smile, and your confidence are affected. Along with these effects, tooth loss also has a negative impact on the health of your jawbone. When you lose your teeth, the bone begins to resorb and grow weak. Dental implants are the latest in tooth replacement technology. Along with restoring the function and aesthetics of your teeth, implants can also protect the health of your jawbone, a benefit no other tooth replacement option can provide. However, dental implants are inserted into the jawbone and require sufficient bone mass to properly fuse. Just because your jawbone is weak though, that does not mean you are ineligible for dental implants. At Westlake Oral and Plastic Surgery, we provide All-on-4® Treatment Concept implants.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a unique treatment for restoring missing teeth, providing an alternative to more traditional treatments like bridges and dentures. They require a surgical procedure, during which titanium rods are inserted into the jawbone. As you heal from surgery, the bone fuses to the titanium, essentially turning the rods into strong, stable roots that are then used to support your ceramic crowns.

All-on-4® Treatment Concept

Typically, when you are missing an entire arch of teeth, 6 to 8 dental implants are used to support an implant supported bridge. However, shortly after you lose your teeth, the jawbone begins to resorb and grow weak. Because implants rely on the fusion of your bone to the titanium, insufficient bone mass can increase your risk of implant failure. While an implant supported denture is supported by 6 to 8 implants, the failure of just one implant can lead to the failure of the entire restoration. It used to be that if you were lacking sufficient bone mass, you would have to either choose dentures or you would need to undergo a bone graft, another surgical procedure with a lengthy recovery period.

The All-on-4® Treatment Concept provides a way for those with too much bone loss to enjoy the benefits of implants without the need for a bone graft. Instead of 6 to 8 implants, the All-on-4® Treatment Concept relies on only 4 implants. The placement of these implants is key. Two implants are placed vertically at the front of the jaw, where there is naturally more bone mass. The other two implants are placed at the back of the jaw, one on each side. These implants are inserted at a 45-degree angle, which helps to maximize the contact between the implant and the remaining bone mass.

Benefits of All-on-4® Treatment Concept

All-on-4® Treatment Concept dental implants offer similar benefits to traditional dental implants. They provide a strong, stable, permanent solution to tooth loss. They are more comfortable and easier to care for. The All-on-4® Treatment Concept implants also stop further bone loss. Other benefits of All-on-4® Treatment Concept dental implants include:
•  With fewer implants, less surgery is required.
•  You have less downtime.
•  The need for bone grafts or sinus lift surgery is eliminated.
•  You avoid the need for traditional dentures.
